‘Arena’ was produced as a reaction to the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017 during a concert by Arianna Grande. We wanted to illustrate how extremist ideology lurks in society, that we never seem to be free of its terrible hold.

Some of the cast and crew were affected by the bombing, including a cast member who was there that evening but insisted on being a part of this film. Whilst we did not want to make a drama out of this one terrible act, we wanted to ask questions and make a film that audiences could discuss by illustrating the present with the past by using a little known true story from the Holocaust.

Arena was supported through crowdfunding and with the generosity of local film facilities – NoDrama, Dropcity & Tracks & Layers. It was a difficult film to make with no support other than the generosity of strangers and a dedicated cast and crew who made this happen.
