‘Arena’ is a ten minute short film based on two entwined true stories, decades apart.
1943. Occupied Poland. On her way back from shopping, housewife Erna Petri discovers six Jewish children by the side of a remote road. Erna drives them back to her farm estate, feeds the disheveled boys a meal then waits for her husband to arrive home to decide their fate.
2017. Manchester. A young man takes a walk through the night time city centre witnessing the ordinary lives of a diverse city at play, full of life. Despite his surroundings he continues his journey towards his fateful destination.
Both stories lead with a sense of the mundane normality of life with rising foreboding as each character moves toward their terrible denouements.
‘Arena’ is a short film that asks difficult questions, promoting debate about the sources of extremism in society.
